Product Description
After we have collected and properly dressed our guests with professional winter overalls and boots (temperature can drop to -30°C!), your professional guide will drive you northwards, away from Rovaniemi, straight out to the wilderness to start hunting for the Northern Lights.
During the day, we always check the weather forecasts and the solar activity reports to enable us to offer you the best experience possible. Based on the analysis of the meteorological situation and our experience, we will drive to locations that are more promising and would offer a better chance to see this natural phenomenon. For example, if the forecasts and Aurora predictions are not promising around the Rovaniemi area, your guide may take you up to 100 kilometres away to get better skies.
We monitor the weather conditions during the tour, and you may decide together to jump back in the minivan to visit another location. As this excursion is a 4-hour Aurora hunt, you get the chance to visit up to 3 locations and increase your chances to observe the Northern Lights.
Our guides take different routes through the fantastic Lapland scenery – at the different stops, you may take a short walk through snowy forests or to the top of snow covered fells. You may cross hanging wooden bridges over powerful rapids, enjoy the silence on lake beaches or simply appreciate the silence in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully, with Auroras dancing over your heads!
On the way, you will also get the opportunity to build a fire, whether in nature, next to a log hut (what we call here Laavu or Kota) or in a teepee. Your guide will teach you how to lit a fire traditionally, without matches or lighter, using nothing else but silver birch bark and flint and steel to lite it. Once the fire is lit, and the kettle is boiling, your guide will keep an eye on the moving sky. While waiting for the first greenish arches to appear above your head, they will share with you their knowledge and passion about the forest, the nature of Lapland, wildlife, and the Northern Lights. You will also get hot drinks to warm you up, grill sausages and toast flatbread over the open fire.
We invite you to take your camera with you (you can rent or buy a tripod from us if you wish) to capture the Auroras. In all cases, your guide will be equipped with a professional camera and will take as many pictures as possible (feel free to ask him/her!) of you and the Northern Lights. We will send you a link to download all the pictures the next day.
On all our excursions, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions.
Furthermore, when it comes to the Northern Lights, chances to observe them properly are increased when groups (and light pollution emitted by torches, phones, and cameras) are reduced. As we usually say – the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!
WE OFFER A -30% DISCOUNT FOR YOUR SECOND NORTHERN LIGHTS TOUR! Contact us when booking to get your personal promo code! Please note that discounts do not combine and your first Northern Lights Wilderness Tour has to be already booked and fully paid.
