“Be our Guest” you have the opportunity to visit the most beautiful and famous winery Cricova from Europe. The biggest cellars in the whole world are, with no doubt, situated in Cricova, Moldova, only a few kilometers north of Chisinau. Here, underground lies a real city of wine – with wide streets, warehouses, tasting-rooms and so on. In the underground streets like “Cabernet”, “Feteasca”, “Pinot”, buses of tourists find their way to the cellars.
In Moldova only Cricova cellars employ the strict classic French technology of champagne wine production. So Cricova is a highlight of any visit to Moldova.
Cricova – the famous underground wine city
Being placed under the town Cricova, the cellars form a true underground city with avenues, streets, and broadways. Only their names seem to be so old: Cabernet, Feteasca, Riesling, Aligote, Sauvignon … Every street’s name corresponds to the wine brand preserved right there, in the adjacent niches.

a month agoCricova was the only winery I visited while in Moldova and we all know Moldova is famous for its wines. I had the chance to travel by car to Cricova city, otherwise not sure on the transportation options from Chisinau. On arrival, there is a small restaurant with a nice view before entering the ticket place. I booked the basic tour for 2 people that was 1000 MDL (around 55 EUR) without wine tasting. Make sure to bring warm cloth as the temperature is 12 degrees in the wineries. You are being picked up with a small red train and go down with moderate speed so this makes it even colder. The guide and tour was amazing, the information given and history of the place is fantastic. I think it was the best experience I had in Moldova. We explored all the rooms made with different specific decorations, got a small glass of sparkling wine and ended in the souvenir shop. The guide was a true professional. We saw mosaics, old objects used to make wine, understood several techniques on wine making and also saw a history movie. There was a bit of an unpleasant situation in the souvenir shop with some personal comments from the shop seller that I considered inappropriate, she was pushing to buy extra stuff but apart from this subjective experience, it was a really nice place to visit!

3 months agoWe had truly amazing time at the wine tour with Aurora, the English speaking guide. If you are planning to visit Cricova, make sure you are booking a tour with her. The excursion was so interesting and the wine was so tasty! I also recommend to have a dinner at the restaurant just near the wine cellars, the food was delicious!

3 weeks agoCricova's extensive underground cellars, covering over 120 kilometers, are an awe-inspiring sight. The labyrinth of tunnels, carved out of limestone, is not only an ideal environment for wine aging but also a unique attraction in itself. Exploring the cellars is like a journey through time, with wine collections that include rare and valuable vintages. The guided tours of the winery are informative and engaging. Cricova is conveniently located near Chisinau, making it a perfect day trip for anyone staying in the Moldovan capital.
