EVENING 1: Northern Lights Wilderness Tour with Professional Camera (4 hours)
Our Northern Lights Wilderness Tour takes you straight into Arctic nature to hunt the Northern Lights. Your guide will provide full explanations of the phenomenon, nature and folklore, show you the best ways to enjoy the delights of the beautiful winter landscapes and take great pictures with their professional cameras. Based on the weather conditions, you may visit up to 3 locations to increase your chance and seeing a bit more of the scenery of Lapland. Typical Finnish snacks and hot beverages will be served around an open fire to keep you warm.
The start time and the routes are chosen during the day depending on the weather conditions and solar activity. You will be informed about the departing time and your pick-up time in the morning. The pictures taken by your guide will be sent to you the next day.
EVENING 2: Ski Trekking Under the Northern Lights (3 hours 30 minutes)
Tonight, you will enjoy an evening backcountry Ski Trekking Safari to explore untouched Arctic nature. Backcountry skiing, or off-piste skiing, is a great way to explore remote areas of Lapland covered in deep snow. Unlike alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, which are practised on groomed trails, backcountry skiing allows you for a more adventurous trip through hilly terrains, forests and lakes. As the skis are equipped with skin, they allow you to go uphill, and downhill without excessive speed. Like snowshoeing, it does not require much practice to get used to the gear and to the techniques to slide on deep snow. This makes it very comfortable and easy to use, even for beginners!
Your guide will choose a location that best fits the level and needs of the group, but also that allows you to get a good chance to see Northern Lights if they appear. They will also provide you with safety instructions and teach you some techniques on how to use the skis on fresh snow. Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack will be provided halfway, as your guide will lite a fire to keep you warm.
EVENING 3: Northern Lights Wilderness Tour with Professional Camera (4 hours)
Join a second Northern Lights Wilderness Tour and get one more chance to chase the Aurora Borealis by minivan. If it is relevant and follows the weather/solar activity conditions, your guide will try to take you to different routes every night so that you can enjoy a different experience and get to see more of the Winter scenery of Lapland. Snacks are included and pictures taken by your guide will be sent to you the next day.
EVENING 4: Chasing Northern Lights by Reindeer Safari (3 hours)
Let’s go chase the magical Auroras through the mystical forest of Lapland! Enjoy an evening reindeer sleigh ride through the snowy forest of Lapland and get a chance to spot the magical Aurora Borealis! During this tour, your guide will drive you to one of the most traditional reindeer farms in Southern Lapland. The herders family is based just outside of Rovaniemi on the lovely shores of a peaceful lake. They have been herding reindeer for 200 years and have been living in this area for 500 years.
At the farm, you will be introduced to your reindeer and will be invited to take place in the sleigh. Your reindeer will then take you for a peaceful sleigh trip where arctic nature shows all its silent beauty. Just a bit of luck is needed and you will soon be able to spot and enjoy the precious Northern Lights dancing over your head. After the trip, hot drinks and snacks are waiting for you in a wooden cottage on the farm. By the fire, the herders will tell you more about the Lappish way of life and reindeer husbandry. Reindeer herding is a very traditional activity in Lapland and they will be happy to share with you a bit of their lifestyle and passion.
The departure of the tour is at 18:50 (1.12. – 9.3.) or 19:50 (10.3 – 31.3).
