Make your way to the stars and explore the universe at the Griffith Observatory, guided by this in-app audio tour!
The Griffith Observatory is one of LA's most beloved and recognized destinations. It is the most visited public observatory globally and has been one of Hollywood's favorite film destinations, with over 300 major films featuring it like The Terminator, Charlie's Angels, and La La Land.
The tour starts at the monument outside the Observatory and tells you about six of the greatest astronomers in history. Then, you'll visit the Keck Central Rotunda, where you can marvel at Hugo Ballin Murals and learn how science and mythology are related. You’ll then uncover how the Sun and the Moon interact with the Earth and see a live broadcast of the Sun through solar telescopes. Next, you'll head to the lower levels, where you'll learn about meteorites, the landing on the Moon, and discover our place in the universe through interactive displays. Then, you'll head back up to the Wilder Hall of the Eye, where you'll learn about the evolution of astronomical instruments and can even get a close-up of the Moon and planets through the 12-inch Zeiss telescope.
The tour will finish on the Terrace, where you'll find breathtaking views of LA and get the best picture of the famous Hollywood Sign. There will also be an option to watch a live planetarium show at the Samuel Oschin Planetarium theater.
